Juan Pablo Zúñiga

I am a Math Fellow (formerly Assistant Adjunct Professor) at the UCLA Department of Mathematics, working with Joaquín Moraga. I received my Ph.D. from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile under the supervision of Giancarlo Urzúa. Previously, I was a master’s student at PUC and an undergraduate student at Universidad de los Andes under the supervision of Cristian Martínez.

My research interests lie in algebraic geometry. I am particularly interested in:

  • Deformations and degenerations of algebraic varieties;
  • Birational-geometric methods in the study of compactifications of moduli spaces;
  • Cox rings of non-Mori dream spaces.
